Monday 1 June

-         Attended a reception organised by Skillsmart Retail on the theme of ‘Upskilling for Recovery”  

-         Attended the Parliamentary launch of the Friends of Off the Streets and into Work

-         Attended the launch of the All Party Group for Paediatric Mobility

Vote on the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill

 

Tuesday 2 June

-         Spoke at an Industry and Parliament Trust seminar for civil servants from the Health and Safety Executive on the role of Select Committees

-         Meeting with representatives of the Royal Bank of Scotland

Vote on the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill

 

Wednesday 3 June

-         Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee taking evidence as part of our enquiry into Tackling Pensioner Poverty

-         Meeting with a journalist from the BBC’s Politics Show

-         Meeting with a representative of Tescos

-         Attended a reception organised by Lifetracks, a consortium of voluntary organisations dedicated to supporting young people

 

Monday 8 June

-         Visited the Cardinal Hume Centre near the House of Commons to see their innovative approaches to helping young disadvantaged people get on in life

-         Attended a drop-in session run by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads

-         Meeting with a representative of Yorkshire Bank to discuss their lending practices in Bradford in the recession

-         Attended the Federation of Small Businesses summer reception

-         Visit to the Stratford Olympic Site with members of the Work and Pensions Select Committee in the context of our work on Health and Safety

-         Attended an Aim Higher event at the QEII Conference Centre

-         Attended an event organised by the National Deaf Childrens Society promoting their ‘Sounds Good’ scheme

-         Meeting with the managing director of Social Homes

-         Attended a briefing organised by UNITE on current issues in the financial sector

-         Attended the Health and Safety Executive parliamentary reception

-         Attended the SIGOMA (Special Interest Group of Metropolitan Authorities) event, “Breaking the Cycle: Ending Child Poverty)

Wednesday 10 June

-         Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee – a one-off evidence session with the Chair of the Health & Safety Executive

-         Attended the Age Concern/Help the Aged lobby of parliament

-         Attended the Carers’ parliamentary reception

-         Met a representative of the Financial Services Authority to discuss  issues surrounding debt management, financial advice, etc.

-         Attended the Citizens Advice Bureaux annual parliamentary reception

-         Attended a dinner hosted by Remploy and EDS

Vote on opposition motion (SNP & Plaid Cymru) relating to the dissolution of parliament

 

Thursday 11 June

-         Attended the Anne Frank Awards event and presented an award to the Bradford Anne Frank Ambassadors and the Rotherham Anti-Fascist Group

 

Monday 15 June

-         Attended a reception organised by the Association of Colleges ‘It can be you – celebrating colleges’

Votes on opposition motions on ‘The impact of the recession on rural communities’ and ‘The impact of business rates’

 

Tuesday 16 June

-         Visited the offices of the Pension Protection Fund in Croydon and met members of staff from various departments

-         Attended the opening ceremony of the HSE’s exhibition in the House of Commons

 

Wednesday 17 June

-         Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee where we heard evidence from a number of ministers on the subject of Child Poverty

-         Meeting with the Chief Executive of Grandparents Plus

-         Attended an event organised jointly by Progress and Justice for Columbia

-         Attended a reception organised by Every Disabled Child Matters on ‘Disabled Children and Health’

Voted in the election for a new Speaker of the House of Commons

-         Chaired a roundtable discussion organised by Off the Streets and into Work

-         Met a delegation of Macedonian parliamentarians with members of the Work and Pensions Select Committee

-         Attended a conference on ’30 Years of Scrutiny’ looking at the work of Departmental Select Committees

-         Attended a briefing organised by the Department for Work and Pensions on improving disability employment and adviser services

-         Attended a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mental Health to discuss the Equality Bill

-         Attended the inaugural meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Paediatric Mobility

-         Attended the regular meeting of the Yorkshire Group of Labour MPs

-         Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committeewhere we heard evidence from ministers as part of our enquiry into Fuel Poverty

-         Meeting with representatives of the Charity Commission Social Cohesion Unit to talk about their outreach work with Mosques

-         Attended a reception ‘Our Aging Society’

-         Attended a reception organised by Mencap

-         Attended a dinner hosted by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health at which Dame Carol Black was the main speaker

Vote on an opposition motion on the Iraq Inquiry

 

Thursday 25 June

-         Met representatives of the Big Lottery Fund to talk about grants given to organisations in my constituency

-         Attended a lunch organised by the All Party Group on Occupational Pensions with members of the Pension Protection Fund

-         Meeting with the Yvette Cooper, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

-         Attended a reception at No.10 Downing Street to celebrate Veterans Day, accompanied by Tony Niland, an ex-paratrooper from Bradford.

-         Attended the launch of the Friends of Columbia

-         Attended a dinner organised by the Association of British Insurers looking at issues surrounding long-term care.
