Monday 4 May – Thursday 7th May

-      Work and Pensions Select Committee visit to Canada looking at their policies on Pensioner Poverty

 

Monday 11 May

-      Attended the launch of the South Asian Consensus Group Report on treating patients with diabetes from the UK’s South Asian Community

Vote on the Equality Bill

 

Tuesday 12 May

-      One-to-one meeting with James Purnell, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

-      Spoke at Westminster Briefing event on the topic of “New demands on Job Seekers: Balancing Rights and responsibilities”

-      Attended the Mind parliamentary reception

Vote on the Finance Bill

 

Wednesday 13 May

-      Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee taking evidence as part of our enquiry into Tackling Pensioner Poverty

-      Attended a reception organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Coeliac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis

-      Attended the launch of the Nationwide and Citizens Advice Money Active partnership

-      Attended a meeting of the UNITE parliamentary group

-      Took part in a roundtable discussion on US Class Action and UK Pension Funds

 

Monday 18 May

-      All-day visit to the Health and Safety Executive head office in Bootle with members of the Work and Pensions Select Committee

Votes on Opposition led debates on ‘Crisis in Skills Funding' and ‘Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust’

 

Tuesday 19 May

-      Meeting with representatives of the National Pensioners Convention

-      Hosted the launch of WILLOW (Welfare Influencing in London: Lobbying on Worklessness) organised by Off the Streets and into Work

-      Attended the launch of  Age Concern/Help the Aged’s  ‘One Voice’ report

-      Attend a reception and FRAX (fracture risk assessment clinic) organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Osteoporosis

Vote on Policing and Crime Bill

 

Wednesday 20 May

-      Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee taking evidence as part of our enquiry into Tackling Pensioner Poverty

-      Met constituents who were part of the Joint Epilepsy Council lobby of parliament

-      Received an award at a ceremony organised by the Jumma and Kashmir Self Determination movement for help and assistance given to the Kashmiri Community in the UK

-      Attended a meeting about the campaign for a staff association for HM Forces
