Monday 2nd March

-     Attended a celebration to mark the successful passage of the Health & Safety Act with Lord McKenzie at the Department for Work and Pensions

Vote on the Political Parties and Elections Bill

 

 

Tuesday 3rd March

-     Met the Moldovan Ambassador, Natalia Solcan, on behalf of the Work and Pensions Select Committee

-     Met a group of students from the Challenge College who were visiting parliament

-     Attended a reception launching ‘Money Skills’ a financial literacy programme for young people developed by West Yorkshire Trading Standards in partnership with Barclays Bank

-     Met representatives of the PCS union who were lobbying parliament about the Welfare Reform Bill

 

 

Wednesday 4 March

-     One-to-one meeting with representative of UCATT

-     Chaired lunchtime meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee with representatives of the Social Security Advisory Committee

-     Meeting with Lloyds Register re safety issues in the nuclear energy sector

-     Meeting with Gingerbread/One Parent Families re Welfare Reform Bill

Vote on the Northern Ireland Bill

 

Monday 9th March

-     Attended a presentation by the UK Border Agency

-     Met Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, to discuss issues around schools in Bradford

 

 

Tuesday 10th March

-     Select Committee all-day visit to Brighton to meet the representatives of Pensions Regulator, the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority, The Pension Protection Fund and the Department for Work and Pensions as part of our enquiry into Tackling Pensioner Poverty

-     Attended Action for Children reception

Votes on Opposition debates on ‘Unemployment in the UK’ and ‘The European Working Time Directive’, followed by a vote on The Consolidated Fund (Appropriation) Bill

 

Wednesday 11th March

-     Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee -  a one-off evidence session on Jobcentre Plus

-     Met a constituent who was taking part in the lobby of Parliament calling for the end of the siege on Gaza

-     Attended a Seminar on the current situation in Kashmir

-     Attended the Electricity Safety Council annual parliamentary reception

-     One-to-one meeting with the Delivery Director of the DWP’s Workstep Programme

Thursday 12th March

-     Attended a reception marking the 25th Anniversary of the Miners’ Strike

 

Monday 16th March

-     Work and Pensions oral questions in the Chamber

-     Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee with representatives from EDS

-     One-to-one meeting with James Purnell, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions

Tuesday 17th March

-     Hosted a breakfast meeting for Rethink as part of their campaign to ensure that those with mental illness are not barred from Jury Service

-     Hosted  a reception for the Workers Health Advice Team to which all MPs from the Yorkshire Region were invited

-     Contributed to the debate on the Welfare Reform Bill in the Chamber

-     Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee – a one-off evidence session on the Autumn Performance Report

-     One-to-one meeting with the Chief Executive of the Employers Forum on Disability

-     Attended a meeting of the All Party Group on Poverty at which Sir Richard Tilt, Chairman of the Social Security Advisory Committee, was present

-     Attended the launch of Child Poverty Action Group’s ‘Manifesto for Success’ concerned with ending child poverty

-     Attended a dinner hosted by Morrisons

-     Attended a meeting with baggage handlers about Unite’s ‘Lighten Up’ campaign

-     Attended the Cadbury Easter reception

-     Meeting with French parliamentarians to talk about the work of the DWP Select Committee

-     Chaired  the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee to discuss the report on our Equalities inquiry

-     Meeting with members of the GPM Sector National Committee

-     Attended meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Community & Voluntary Sector to discuss the threat to community advice services
