Monday 2 November - Visited Leeds with the Select Committee where we met a number of senior people in DWP tribunal system to learn more about the DWP appeals system
Tuesday 3 November - One-to-one meeting with Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions - Attended a briefing for Yorkshire and Humberside MPs on the NHS’s National Programme for IT Votes on the Constitutional Reform and Governance Bill
Wednesday 4 November - Chaired the meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee where we took evidence for our one-off report, ‘Working Better: Meeting the changing needs of families, workers and employers in the 21st Century” - One-to-one meeting with a researcher from Quilliam, a counter-extremism think-tank - Recorded a piece to camera for the ‘Voice of Pensions’ website Votes on Opposition motions on Higher Education and NHS Dentistry
Monday 9 November - One-to-one meeting with representatives of the Future Jobs Fund - Interview for the BBC PM programme on the subject of grandparents as carers - One-to-one meeting with representative of the Occupational Pensioners Alliance - Chaired meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee where we took evidence as part of our enquiry “Decision-making and appeals in the benefits system” Votes on the Coroners and Justice Bill
Tuesday 10 November - Attended a meeting organised by the All Party Group on Mental Health regarding mental health awareness training for parliamentarians - Spoke at a seminar organised by the Centre for Public Scrutiny on the role of Select Committees - Attended the meeting of the All Party Group on Occupational Health and Safety Vote on the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill
Wednesday 11 November - Chaired meeting of the Work and Pensions Select Committee were we discussed the management of employment programmes - One-to-one meeting with Defence Minister re issue raised by a constituent - Attended a reception marking World Diabetes Day - Attended the Cardinal Hume Centre Annual Reception Votes on the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill
Thursday 12 November - Was a member of the panel at the Carers Summit organised by Carers UK - Attended the Governments’ Grandparents Summit
The House was then in recess until Wednesday 16th November when the Queen opened the new session of Parliament and gave the Queen’s Speech.
Monday 23 November - Attended and spoke at the Unite Print Sector Conference in Brighton - Attended a briefing meeting on Orissa organised by the Religious Liberty Commission of the Evangelical Fellowship of India
Tuesday 24 November - One-to-one meeting with the Director of Communications at eSure
Wednesday 25 November - Chaired the meeting of the DWP Select Committee where we considered the outline of our report on Decision-making and appeals - Meeting with Alistair Darling, Chancellor the Exchequer, to discuss child poverty measures in the Pre-Budget Report - Interview with a trainee journalist as part of his university dissertation - Interview with IPSOS Mori as part of their polling research - Chaired the Employment Related Services Association launch of their ‘Shared Promise on Customer Care’ campaign - Attended a meeting of the Parliamentary Friends of Columbia Vote on the Queen’s Speech
Thursday 26 November - Attended the launch of the National Young Carers Coalition Vote on the Queen’s Speech
Monday 30 November - One-to-one meeting with the Acting Chief Executive of JobCentre Plus - Chaired the meeting of the DWP Select Committee on the Management of Employment Programmes
